Adrian Sudbury

Release Date: 20 August 2008

Adrian Sudbury, also known as the 'Baldy Blogger,' passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Wednesday 20 August 2008, after battling two types of leukaemia.

Adrian's multi-award winning blog and his campaign to educate young people about donating bone marrow caught the attention of Downing Street, where he met Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Schools Secretary Ed Balls.

Paying tribute to Adrian, Gordon Brown described him as a 'true hero'

Adrian contracted two forms of leukaemia in November 2006 and at one point made a recovery and returned to work. His bone marrow transplant was sadly unsuccessful and after further unsuccessful treatments, Adrian decided to end treatment in May 2008. At this point he launched a campaign to raise awareness of bone marrow transplants.

Adrian was in regular contact with the Press Office at Leukaemia Research and he will be sadly missed.

In June, Adrian's friend Olie D'Albertanson, a BBC journalist, announced plans to take part in Run to the Beat on 5 October in support of Leukaemia Research.

Speaking about Olie's fundraising in mid July, Adrian said: "Leukaemia is a terrible disease that affects so many families and cares little for background, class, age or religion. Any family can be hit by it and although treatment has improved significantly in recent years there is still so much that we don't understand about this cancer.

"Too many people - including myself - are going to lose their lives, or have lost their lives, because of it.

"Please support my good friend Olie. Leukaemia Research needs money to keep supporting the work of scientists who can make a massive difference in this field and maybe one day discover a cure for this cruel and indiscriminate disease."
