| | Phil Fryer Release Date: 15 November 2008
Frank Sinatra tribute singer, Phil Fryer from Morley, did the whole 84 mile length of Hadrian's Wall, from Carlisle to Newcastle, in four days for leading blood cancer charity Leukaemia Research raising £1,211.
This is not the first time he has taken up a challenge. Phil used to participate in marathons and triathlons such as the Ironman Triathlons (swimming, running and cycling) all over Europe raising money for charity.
Leukaemia Research is a charity close to Phil’s heart as his mother-in-law died of leukaemia six years ago. This inspired him to do the gruelling Hadrian’s Wall walk to raise funds for the organisation.
He said: "After raising £1,433 for Leukaemia Research last December at one of my Sinatra Shows, I realised I hadn't being involved in any physical charity events for almost 11 years. Walking the Wall is something I have wanted to do for a long time, and it is a great feeling to have raised funds for such a very worthy cause."
Jean Wells from the Leeds Metropolitan Branch of Leukaemia Research says: "Phil's fundraising for our charity is fantastic. The money he has raised will help Leukaemia Research find better treatments and cures for blood cancers." He decided to walk the whole length of Hadrian’s Wall, after walking a short section of the wall last August whilst singing at a wedding in Northumberland.
Phil Fryer started his singing career in 1997 when he was persuaded to have a go at karaoke singing in a bar. His version of a Frank Sinatra song was so well received he decided to begin singing in venues around Morley in an attempt to establish himself in the area. Together with engagements in top hotels and restaurants all over the country and worldwide, he has many forthcoming events to look forward to!
Phil can be sponsored by visiting his website at www.justgiving.com/philfryer , or www.justtobefrank.co.uk, and all the money raised will go to Leukaemia Research.
